Shoreside Support

Of interest to Owners, Captains and Operators of large yachts and coinciding with the opening of Monaco Yacht Show is the launch of a new company specialising in marine safety, security and support specifically for large yachts. Known as Shoreside Support it is a group formed by three top industry professionals who seek to offer their services to large yachts on a consultancy basis. They specialise in professional personal assistance to Captains and Owners who do not require full management but do need backup ashore, either short or long term. The group recognise that in the world of professional yachting it is frequently the yacht’s Captain who is in the best position to manage the vessel, but he may require external independent support, advice and assistance.

With a combined maritime and seagoing experience of more than 100 years, the founders all began their seagoing careers with the P&O shipping group gaining qualifications on cruise ships and cargo liners before becoming members of the large yacht fraternity. They have experience of all types of ships and yachts, including command, and hold memberships with the Professional Yachtsmen’s Association and the Honorable Company of Master Mariners.

They have a comprehensive knowledge of ISM documentation and class surveys coupled with an involvement in many aspects of private and commercial yachts. Their knowledge and understanding of Shipping Legislation including ISPS and yacht code requirements, enable them not only to develop flag state approved security plans but also to devise understandable ISM & Training manuals along with customised database programmes that simplify on board yacht procedures. Working aboard large yachts they have already identified the need for many Captains to call upon the services of this style of on demand support from ashore. They are accredited trainers and ISM course providers, teaching courses to Flag State accepted standards and are qualified ISM & ISPS lead auditors.

The team at Shoreside Support includes; Captain Paul Boyce a safety consultant specialist in matters appertaining to ISM, and ISPS, Captain Roger Emtage best remembered for his time with the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry (CISR) where he was Surveyor in Charge of the European office. Still retained by the CISR in the capacity of advisor and consultant on yachting matters, he is familiar with all flagging issues and lastly; and finally; Captain Michael Howorth yacht Captain, writer and author of technical reports and training manuals. As Shoreside Support they jointly seek to provide a full and comprehensive on demand service to ensure the needs of Owners, Captains and Crews of large yachts are all met.
